About Velove

The start of my cycling journey

I started my cycling journey when I was 14. I started doing youth races at the local club and I fell in love with the sport. I must admit that I certainly wasn't the best or the smartest boy at those races, but I enjoyed them. The year after, I moved on to the u17 category, where I got overwhelmed. Suddenly there were 120 guys at the startline instead of 20 and I had no clue on how to actually ride in a peloton. Naturally, I rode behind the peloton for that year. I did train hard that year and more than the other boys my age and in my second year as an u17 cyclist, I started to ride better races, move well through the peloton, place attacks. That last thing is something I did too much, I would place many attacks, but they were always at the wrong time, but it give me a huge drive to keep training when I noticed it was paying off.

physical problems

  • however, I was already struggling with nauseau as a 14 year old boy and now that I was able to compete in races for longer than an hour, I began experiencing heavy cramping every single race I did. Of course, I tried all conventional methods one-by-one to get rid of the cramping. Hydrating, optimized nutrition, foam rolling, stretching, special warming ups, pickle juice, you name it - I tried it. I am currently still trying to find a cause and solution for this problem with my sports doctor. This spring I raced a 3-stage race in France on UCI junior level. I felt good in the first hour, constantly at the front and jumped with moves among some of the worlds best juniors. However, after an hour I my body gave out and I began cramping up all across my body, even my arms. I managed to finish within time limit and was able to start the next day. The next days I cramped up even sooner and rode alone almost all weekend, still completing every kilometer of the race all alone in pain of the cramps. I am still training, but I am focusing less on adjusting the rest of my life to my training schedule and putting more time in other interests and goals.

Velove was born

I love to spend my time on all things cycling related and racing was the thing I loved to do most. Now that it's not working out, I diverted my passion for the sport into a clothing brand, Velove. I wanted a stylish piece of cycling related clothing, but not look like a nerd. I am not very focused on my fashion, but I always want to look clean and put together. I wanted a piece of clothing that wasn't just a bicycle slapped onto a piece of cloth, I wanted a real fashion piece. I was prepared to pay a lot for it, since I knew I would wear it as often as I could. It would be my most stylish piece of clothing and at the same time carry the most meaning. Sadly, I could not find any piece of clothing that matched my requirements... That's when I took the matter into my own hands and started Velove from the ground up. I had no experience or idea on how to start a brand, design clothing, how to run a business. I was clueless. I worked hard and disciplined and learned everything along the way, just like I do with cycling, up to the point where I am at now. With a fully functioning fashion brand that let's every cycling enthusiast express their love for cycling without sacrificing on their style.
